Candidate Profiles will be added as they are received, and during regular working hours. All profiles and photos were written and submitted by the candidate. Deadline for submissions is Aug. 10 at 4:30 pm. Profiles received before then will be added in due course.

REGISTERED CANDIDATES for SCHOOL TRUSTEES - Conseil scolaire public du Grand Nord de l'Ontario (1 to be elected - ACCLAIMED):
  •  Anne-Marie Gélineault
 A candidate for Mayor or Council must be:
  • a resident of the City of Thunder Bay, or the owner or tenant of land in Thunder Bay or the spouse of such owner or tenant of land in Thunder Bay; 
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • 18 years of age; and 
  • Not disqualified from being elected to or holding office by reason of any violations of the election campaign financial requirements or violations for not filing the financial statement (for the 2014 Municipal Election) pursuant to the Municipal Elections Act, 1996. 
  • **NEW**  The nomination must be endorsed by 25 eligible electors - the persons endorsing the nomination must be eligible to vote in the municipality on the day the nomination papers are being filed.  Those who sign an endorsement of a candidate will also have to sign a declaration that they were eligible to vote on the day they provide the endorsement. (The electors endorsing the nomination can endorse more than one nomination.) 
  • Campaigning may begin once the candidate files their nomination papers.  Campaigning is prohibited prior to filing nominations papers.

 

Who can be a Third Party Advertiser?

Only those who have registered with the Office of the City Clerk can spend money on third party advertising.  The following are eligible to register as a third party advertiser:

  • any person who is a resident of Ontario
  • a corporation carrying on business in Ontario
  • a trade union that holds bargaining rights for employees in Ontario.

 A candidate for School Board Trustee must be:
  • a resident of the area of jurisdiction of the School Board; 
  • a Canadian Citizen; and 
  • 18 years of age.

School Board nominations do not require endorsements.

 

The following are added qualification(s):

  • A candidate for English Language Public District School Board Trustee must be a qualified elector and must also be a Public School Supporter/Elector;
  • A candidate for English Language Separate District School Board Trustee must be a qualified elector and must also be a Separate School Supporter/Elector and Roman Catholic;
  • A candidate for French Language Public District School Board Trustee must be a qualified elector and must also be a Public School Supporter/Elector and have the right for his/her child to attend a French Public Language School;
  • A candidate for French Language Separate District School Board Trustee must be a qualified elector and must also be a Separate School Supporter/Elector, Roman Catholic and have the right for his/her child to attend a French Separate Language School.
