Debbie DeBruyne

Debbie DeBruyneNewly retired from my 20 year position as Chaplain at St. Patrick High School, I have been a strong voice for Catholicity, enlightened through studies in Theology and Youth Ministry, and through involvement in church ministry at the parish, community and diocesan levels.

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, I attended St. Margaret, St. Ignatius, and Lakeview High schools, then Lakehead University, graduating with a B.Sc. in Math/Computer Science. During my first career in I.T., I continued to study, earning a Certificate in Youth Ministry from St. Michael’s College in Toronto. I am currently completing a Master's Degree in Theology from Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. I have been involved in a number of parishes as Youth Minister, Altar Server, Eucharistic Minister and Minister of the Word.

I am a member of the CWL and Right to Life. I have served as Director of the local Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) diocesan youth program for a quarter of a century, and recently received a Heritage Award for service at TEC’s local, regional and international levels. Committed to social justice, I chaired the Diocesan Council of Development and Peace, and volunteer at the Dew Drop Inn. In their recent pastoral letter for Catholic education, the Bishops addressed the Trustees saying, “You are entrusted with the profound responsibility of stewardship of the mission of Catholic education.” Through education and experience I am uniquely qualified for this important role.
