Dina McFarlane

Dina McFarlaneCatholic education has always been a source of purpose and fulfillment in my life. I was a teacher for 33 years, fostering many wonderful connections with others; colleagues, parents and students. I retired in 2011, but continue to volunteer in schools, reading to primary children on a weekly basis. I have been a lifelong parishioner, Eucharistic minister and volunteer of St. Anthony Church.

My husband, Tim, was also a Catholic teacher, and our three children, who were educated in the Catholic system, became educators as well, two of whom teach in the Catholic Board. The partnership of school, family, and Church is vitally important to me. I understand and appreciate what makes Catholic education a unique and life-changing experience. It has allowed me to create lasting bonds with my students and their families. At the core of every issue surrounding education is the well-being of each child. I have always maintained this ideology. As a teacher, my students were always my first priority. They were welcomed openly and honestly, challenged to reach their potentials, and were respected and loved. These same values frame my goals as a potential trustee.

I will treat every decision - whether it be policy formation, budget or parental concerns - with seriousness, respect, and integrity, always maintaining focus on the betterment of the child. Thank you for your consideration; it would truly be an honour to serve as trustee for the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board.
