Ellen Chambers

Ellen Chambers Ellen Chambers is seeking re-election for trustee for Lakehead Public Schools. She has continued her support and advocacy for social justice and equity in her first term. People reach out to her and she has been a vital voice at committees, but most importantly she listens to concerns, bringing them to the attention of administration.

Through continued professional development Ellen shares ideas and resources. She regularly attends the National Trustee Gathering on Indigenous Learning and is dedicated to lifelong learning. Ellen is a member of Diversity Thunder Bay, and chair of their Communications and Education sub-committee. She’s been with the L.P.S. Aboriginal Education and Advisory Committee since 2007, as well as the Equity and Inclusive Education Committee.

She was Vice Chair of the Budget Committee this year and sat on the Transition and School Naming committees for Agnew and Edgewater schools amalgamating and moving to the new school being built. Ellen has been in education for over 40 years as special education and classroom teacher, local union leader and as a parent.

She advocated for years for the safety of LGBTQ students in schools, locally and provincially, being instrumental in bringing Gay Straight Alliances to Thunder Bay. She received the Mayor’s Community Hero Award, and the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario Humanitarian Award for this work. Education is central to her life, knowing that children come first in all of her decisions as trustee.
